The story of the founder of Ray of Joy

Hello,
My name is Lyudmila, I was born and raised in Ukraine. 8 years ago my family and I moved to America. I am the founder of Ray of Joy.
Our organization specializes in helping widows and orphans, and with the outbreak of war in Ukraine, we are actively helping refugees in America and victims in Ukraine.
Usually, individuals open charitable organizations in relation to the difficulties they went through themselves. For instance, parents who have lost a child to cancer may open a charity to help other children fight this disease. Immigrants who have gone through a difficult adaptation process in a new country, open a charitable organization to help ease the adaptation process for other immigrants.
Fortunately, I am not a widow or an orphan. So why did I choose this particular type of charity? I grew up in a family of widows and orphans. My grandfather tragically passed away at the age of 42, while my grandmother was 38 years old.
My mother became an orphan at the age of 11. Despite the fact that my grandmother was widowed for many years, she never expected help from others. In fact, she herself helped the people around her. With that, my parents learned from my grandmother to take care of those in need. For example, my father would bring bread to big families in need, and when my mother bought herself a bag of flour she she would make sure to buy one for her sister-in-law who was widowed. For them, taking care of others was the norm of life. This is the environment in which I grew up.
Since moving to America, the opportunity to help those around me grew and an idea came to me to open a charitable organization and gather a team of like-minded people. I understood that the larger our team, the more opportunities we will have to serve orphans and widows, as well as children in orphanages. I shared this idea with my husband, and in June 2020 I became the founder of Ray of Joy.
